2. IHG murders its loyalty program.

The former worlds largest loyalty programme formerly known as IHG Priority Club then IHG Rewards Club and recently IHG Rewards rolled out this month with some shocking discoveries with no notice from them at all.

What a pity.

Firstly we broke the sad sad news last year January that IHG had killed off its Pointbreaks, for years Pointbreaks was our go-to escape, always it had
a few top end hotels for just 5000 points per night, every quarter, that I still rate as the best valued and unrivaled promotion in travel history.

There were also soo many ways to get ones hands on 5000 points,

IHG then gave notice to have dynamic award pricing sometime last year, my favourite IHG redemption in Maldives dropped to 25,000 points per night. That same property can now go for a staggering 55,000 points per night after IHG’s 1st of April Massacre of their loyalty award programme.

You may check your favourite properties devaluation on website or app.

Couple this with their current buy points promo that many had fallen a victim to, only to wake up in this new month at -30% lost in value, blend this with still no free breakfasts for elites and a drop in Ambassador perks now puts this chain at the bottom of the lot.

3. Etihad retires their A380’s. ouch

Vintage double decker flight apartments that used to exist.

Yes, all 10 of their A380’s will no longer fly. That’s not even Au revoir but a permanent goodbye to The Residence, a 3 room private piece of real estate in the sky and as well goodbye to the amazing 1st Class Apartments.

CEO Mr. Tony Douglas said: “We have now taken the strategic decision to park the A380s, I’m sure it’s very likely that we won’t see them operating with Etihad again.”

We had the privilege of flying the Apartments on numerous occasions without the high cash price tag.

R1023 to New York

R250 to India

R266 to London

Australia also offered a great redemption but was never on our list of plans, South Korea was ( using the newly minted Aeroplan miles way to slay )and them bam, pandemic extentions

Going forward Etihad will still offer a decent 1st class on their other metal albeit it wont be the upstairs experience.

4. Radisson splits

Formerly Club Carlson then renamed Radisson rewards now splits the programme (&website) up to Radisson Americas and Radisson EMEA APAC, how this will come into effect is due later this month.
